Getting around without a rental car is surprisingly easy and affordable, thanks to a number of public transportation options. For longer hauls, such as the CUN airport, the ADO buses are choice; comfortable, air conditioned, and with plenty of luggage space, they offer hassle free travel. Terminals are located in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, schedules are accessible online.

For shorter jaunts, nothing beats the colectivo, small shuttle buses that run continually from 5 AM until midnight between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Quick, comfortable, and affordable, they are the transport method of choice for many locals. Whether you are heading into town, the ruins, Akumal, or one of the many cenotes or parks along 307 you will only need to stand at an access point along the side of the road for a few minutes before one passes. To flag one down, simply put your hand in the air to signal the driver to stop, let him know your destination as you board, then sit back and enjoy the ride.

Taxis are also readily available at most popular destinations for those times you prefer door to door service and don’t mind paying for it.

To get from the Cancun airport to Dos Ojos Lodge, any of the following combinations will work:

  • ADO bus into Playa del Carmen or Tulum, then a taxi or colectivo to the lodge; colectivos are much cheaper and very convenient if you do not have too much luggage. If you opt for a taxi, it will be cheaper from Tulum as it is closer. Schedules are on the ADO website, you can purchase tickets in the airport terminal.
  • Airport transfers; USA Transfers has been highly recommended or just take one of many situated at the airport.
  • Taxi from the airport, perhaps the most convenient, but also most expensive option.

We are located on the entrance road to cenote Dos Ojos. There is a large sign at the entrance from the highway. From there, proceed through the gates for ~0.5 km; tell the gatekeepers that you are going to the hotel so that you are not charged for admission. We are the third drive on the left, we have a sign with a light at our drive.
